Salah Leaving Liverpool: Official Announcement

Now it’s official. Mohamed Salah will indeed leave Liverpool at the end of the season. The Egyptian announced his departure this Tuesday, on social media, through an emotional video. Despite having renewed his contract in 2024/25 for two seasons, until June 2027, the goalscorer’s connection to the reds it will actually end nine years later (not ten).

«Unfortunately, the day has arrived. This is the first part of my farewell. I’m leaving Liverpool at the end of the season. I wanted to start by saying that I never imagined how deeply this club, this city, these people would be a part of my life. Liverpool is not just a football club, it’s a passion, it’s a history, it’s a spirit. I can’t explain it in words to anyone who isn’t part of this club,” the 33-year-old striker began by saying, moving on to thank you.

«We celebrate victories, win the most important trophies and fight together during the most difficult periods of our lives. I want to thank everyone who has been part of this club during my time here, especially my colleagues, past and present, and the fans. I don’t have enough words. The support they showed me during the best period of my career and stuck with me during the most difficult times… is something I will never forget and something that will stay with me forever», he explained, leaving a final note.

«Leaving is never easy, they gave me the best period of my life. I will always be one of you. This club will always be my home, for me and my family. Thank you for everything. Because of all of you, I will never walk alone», he concluded.

In an official statement, the club explained the timing of this announcement by the athlete. “Salah expressed his desire to make this announcement to the fans as quickly as possible, in order to guarantee transparency regarding his future, due to the respect and gratitude he has for them”, he explained.

This decision comes at a time when the player is injured and is out of Egypt for the March training camp, and should return in time for the UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie. Salah has recently been heavily criticized for his performances, which have declined this season after winning the Premier League last season.
