Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s Freya Sala earns national recognition for her outstanding performance in women’s golf.
The Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) has announced that Freya Sala, a women’s golfer from southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU), has been named a Second Team All-American. The announcement was made in Coral Springs, Fla.
Sala, a junior hailing from Mexico City, Mexico, has become the ninth All-American in the history of the SWOSU program, and the fourth as the university moved to Division II. Her second-team selection is the highest honor achieved by a SWOSU golfer in the Division II era, surpassing the honorable mention accolades previously earned by Gloria Choi (2017, 2019) and Kala Freeman (1999).
Throughout the season, Sala was ranked as the No. 2 golfer in the NCAA Central Region, maintaining an average score of 73.5. She secured victories in two tournaments, including the Great American Conference (GAC) Championship, and achieved three additional top-3 finishes. Her triumph at the GAC Tournament marked the second time that SWOSU has claimed the top position in the conference’s 14-year history.
prior to this All-American recognition, Sala was a unanimous Frist Team All-GAC selection and was twice recognized as the league’s Women’s Golfer of the Week during the season. She had also received All-Region status from the WGCA earlier in May.
Her second-team selection is the highest honor achieved by a SWOSU golfer in the Division II era.
