Chris Olave Suffers Second Concussion of the Season for New Orleans Saints

In a somber turn of events, New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave left Bank of America Stadium’s game on November 3, 2024, suffering what is believed to be his second concussion of the season. The incident took place during the Saints’ 23-22 loss to the Carolina Panthers.

An Uncanny Hit: How It Happened

The perilous moment transpired as Olave tried to bring in a high pass from Derek Carr, Saints’ quarterback, midway through the first quarter. Ultimately, he collided with Carolina Panthers safety Xavier Woods. The crash left Olave on the ground, motionless, as the medical staff rushed to his aid. With the help of both teams’ players and coaches, Olave was positioned onto a backboard and transported to a local hospital.

Olave later took to his X account to express gratitude for the support he has received. "Thank God, Preciate all the love & prayers Ima be aight🙏🏾🙏🏾" he wrote, touching the hearts ofmany fans.

The Health Scare and Repercussions

Olave was discharged from the hospital shortly after and is expected to travel back to New Orleans with the team this Sunday. Despite his critical situation, he was able to manage the distress. "I was good man," Olave expressed, reassuring fans and teammates alike. "I know every big hit they kind of check for concussions and stuff, especially with my history. I was good when I got up, though, so I knew I was going to be able to go back in."

This incident has marked the third consecutive game in which Olave has sustained a significant hit to the head and neck area. Notably, this comes as Olave recently switched helmets, stating that he felt the impact was less severe with his new helmet compared to the Guardian Cap he previously wore.

“I just felt like I had changed my helmet to the best helmet so the hit I took in the game, it didn’t really hurt as much as it did with the other helmet,” Olave said.

The Concussion Protocol: A History of Hits

It is also becoming evident that Olave’s recent concussions have positioned him in the NFL’s concussion protocol for the fourth time in his three-year career. Last year, he missed a game after sustaining a concussion against the Atlanta Falcons. He managed to return the following week, underlining his resilience and determination to continue playing.
