Jakarta, Jurnas.com – Dinosaurs always spark curiosity because of their extraordinary size and characteristics. Many wonder, if dinosaurs were alive today, which species would be safest for humans? Some dinosaurs are known to be docile and harmless.
One that is considered safe is Hypsilophodon. This small plant-eating dinosaur had a slim and agile body. Weighing only about 20 kilograms, this animal is more like a small kangaroo than a predator.
Another dinosaur that is quite safe is Pachycephalosaurus, even though it has a thick domed head. This animal eats plants and tends to use its head dome to fight within its species, not to attack prey. If alive today, this animal would probably be defensive rather than aggressive towards humans.
Maiasaura, known as the ‘loving mother’ dinosaur, is also safe. This species eats plants and lives in groups. Fossil records show they cared for their young well, indicating calm social behavior.
Next is Stegosaurus, a dinosaur covered in large plates on its back. Although it looks scary, it is a passive herbivore. The tail weapon is only used when pressed by predators.
Lastly, Diplodocus, one of the famous long-necked dinosaurs. This giant animal eats leaves and tends to avoid conflict. With his large size but gentle temperament, he would be a ‘tame giant’ if he lived today.
Even though they seem safe, all dinosaurs are still wild animals. The modern environment is also not necessarily suitable for them. However, behaviorally, these five dinosaurs are not aggressive and are unlikely to harm humans if they come back to life.
Scientific studies of dinosaur behavior are usually based on bone structure, trace fossils, and comparisons with modern reptiles and birds. Therefore, this interpretation is scientific but still has limitations. However, there is quite a consensus that some dinosaurs did not actively hunt or attack.
From an ecological perspective, herbivorous dinosaurs tend to be more peaceful. They focus on finding food and avoiding predators. This makes some of them potentially behaviorally safe.
Human interest in dinosaurs also fueled modern research on large animals. With technologies such as biomechanical simulations and digital fossil analysis, scientists are able to assess how dinosaurs moved and behaved. These data support the conclusion that some species are not aggressive.
