Even after active hard coal mining in the Saar ended on June 30, 2012, the choir and orchestra are now considered living evidence of the long and intensive industrial history that has shaped the Saarland over the centuries.
In order to continue to do justice to this importance in the future, the Bergkapelle and Saarknappenchor were transferred to the new sponsoring association “Bergmusik an der Saar eV” on January 1, 2016. Since then, the orchestra has been called “Bergkapelle Saar” and the choir has continued to be called “Saarknappenchor”.
