A recent survey by Astrum Entertainment sheds light on the evolving landscape of Russian gamers, revealing their platform preferences, spending habits, and what truly captivates them in the gaming world. The study, encompassing nearly 3,000 participants, offers valuable insights into this dynamic market.

PC Dominance and the Rise of Mobile Gaming

While the PC remains the undisputed king of gaming platforms in Russia, mobile gaming is steadily gaining traction. Astrum Entertainment’s survey indicates that PCs are favored by a majority of Russian gamers, with 11% also embracing smartphones and tablets for their gaming needs. Interestingly, a notable portion of gamers utilize multiple platforms, highlighting the diverse ways in which they engage with digital entertainment.

The survey also explored the hardware landscape. While 38% of respondents consider their PCs to be powerful, 12% admitted to using weaker systems. For the vast majority (87%), gaming serves as a means of relaxation and stress relief. Beyond entertainment, a third of respondents learn new things through games, a quarter value the social interaction, and one in five develop skills such as English proficiency. The core elements of gameplay and mechanics are paramount, valued by 75% of gamers, followed by plot and characters (51%), and graphics (46%).

Interest in the Russian gaming industry is moderate, with only half of the respondents actively following news and playing domestic titles. Though, there’s a strong desire for more games incorporating elements of Slavic culture and Russian history, as exemplified by titles like Atomic Heart. This suggests a potential market for developers willing to tap into the rich cultural heritage of the region.
