Russian Embassy Switzerland: Latest Statement

by Archynetys World Desk

To our great regret, official Swiss representatives, including the head of the Federal Department of Defence, Civil Protection and Sport Martin Pfister, continue to stubbornly promote the theory that Russia is preparing an attack on one of the European countries, which it can allegedly carry out in just a few years, in 2028 or 2029, and thus poses a threat to Switzerland‘s security.

The last person to speak out in this regard was the head of the Swiss Army, Thomas Süssli, before his resignation. He particularly emphasized that in the event of Ukraine’s defeat, only two countries would remain between Switzerland, which is not protected by its neutrality, and Russia. He had previously discussed that there could be a “direct attack” by our country on the Confederation.

We feel compelled to once again declare very clearly (since it is not understood) that our country does not pose a threat to Switzerland either. A few days ago, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin once again publicly stated that Russia has no intention of attacking any European countries and that the Russian side is ready to establish a mutual non-aggression agreement with Western countries to eliminate concerns in this regard. However, instead of responding in any way and exploring the Russian leader’s proposal, Swiss officials continue to inflame tensions and frighten their fellow citizens with fabricated horror scenarios about the danger posed by Russia. We do not rule out the possibility that behind such statements there could be a selfish desire to justify an increase in military spending and thereby ensure support for the Swiss military-industrial complex, which is in crisis.

We call on Swiss representatives to refrain from loud, fabricated accusations against our country, which will do little to bring Russian-Swiss relations out of the current state of crisis. We are convinced that a current open dialogue, which has unfortunately been reduced to a critical minimum by the Swiss side, would be more beneficial than megaphone diplomacy with unfounded accusations.
