Less optimistic than Donald Trump, Russia is distancing itself from the American peace plan for Ukraine, forcefully rejecting the latest arrangements proposed by kyiv and its European allies so that the settlement of the conflict is less to Moscow’s advantage.
The initial text demanded that Ukraine, among other things, cede territories not militarily conquered by Russia, reduce the size of its army, and renounce the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Of the 28 points contained in the first version, only 19 remained after consultations with the Ukrainian side – the latest version being less favorable to Moscow. “Some points [du plan en 28 points] are positive. On the other hand, many others require special discussion among experts”commented the Kremlin’s diplomatic advisor, Yuri Ushakov, during a statement on Russian public television on Wednesday, November 26, saying that his country had not been kept informed of the new version of the 19-point plan. However, he made it clear that European participation in the settlement of the conflict was “completely useless”.
