The UK Ministry of Defense has announced that in 2025 Russia lost about 415 thousand military personnel killed and wounded. This is the second worst figure for the entire period of a full-scale war, second only to 2024, when losses reached 430 thousand people.
In total, since February 2022, the total losses of Russian forces are estimated at approximately 1 million 213 thousand people – these are dead and wounded.
Separately, British analysts pay attention to the dynamics at the end of the year.
In December 2025 Russia’s average daily losses have increased up to 1,130 military personnel, which is more than in November (1,030 people). This was the fourth month in a row with an increase in this indicator.
At the same time, the report notes that the period from August to December 2025 showed the lowest average daily losses since April 2024, but the trend changed sharply at the end of the year.
“Russian casualties have risen again due to active advances along the front line,” British intelligence analysts say.
According to their estimates, in January 2026 losses Russia may increase.
“We expect a further increase in casualties in January 2026 due to continued infantry attacks on multiple axes,” the report said.
Analysts note that the level of losses directly affects the Russian Federation’s ability to maintain the pace of its offensive and changes its tactical decisions at the front.
During 2024, Russia has already set an anti-record for the number of losses – then, according to British intelligence, they exceeded 430 thousand people, which was the result of large-scale offensive operations and attempts to break through the Ukrainian defense.
In 2025, Moscow continued its tactics of debilitating infantry attacks with minimal personnel retentionwhich led to a new sharp increase in the number of dead and injured.
