They have been days of intense fighting in the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.

At least six people died in the Russian attack on Saturday 8 November: according to the Kiev authorities, Moscow sent over 450 drones and 45 missiles into Ukrainian territory, while 79 drones were launched by the Ukrainian army towards Russia (this according to the Russian authorities).

The launches came just hours after US President Donald Trump granted Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán an exemption from US sanctions normally reserved for those who buy Russian oil.

According to Giuseppe D’Amato, an expert on the former Soviet area, the United States sanctions on the main Russian oil companies are “putting the entire Russian oil system in serious difficulty, both at home and abroad”, but for Hungary “the dependence on Russian oil remains heavy”.

Budapest is about to buy American gas and therefore there is an advantage on Trump’s part.
