The Federal Security Service of Russia (FSB, for its acronym in Russian) has thwarted an act of sabotage and terrorism that was being prepared by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) in the city of Saint Petersburg.

The agents detained a Russian citizen, born in 1966, who was recruited by the Ukrainian secret services while residing in Ukraine. From the FSB they detailed that the woman “received training in terrorist activities and sabotage” under the direction of their Ukrainian coordinators.

“After arriving in Russia through third countries, the woman tried to remove from a hiding place, located in the province of Smolensk, a firearm and explosive device homemade, which I had planned use for the purpose of murder to an employee of a company in the military-industrial complex of the Leningrad province,” reads the agency’s statement.

FSB agents seized from the detainee a Makarov pistol, an improvised explosive device based on a foreign-made plastic detonator and communication devices that contained correspondence with their coordinators which are located on the territory of Ukraine.

The Russian authorities opened a criminal case against the suspect for attempted acquisition of explosives or explosive devices. Likewise, proceedings are being carried out to classify their actions, such as the preparation of a terrorist attack and high treason. The detainee has been arrested.
