Royce Keys WWE Status: Is He Signed?

by Archynetys Sports Desk

Following his explosive debut at the 2026 Royal Rumble, fans have been awaiting the first televised singles match for Royce Keys (formerly known as Powerhouse Hobbs in AEW). While the powerhouse has been featured in interview clips with Stephanie McMahon, he has remained absent from regular Raw or SmackDown programming. However, new reports indicate that this is a deliberate part of a developmental process designed to ensure Keys is fully prepared.

According to a report from Bodyslam.netWWE has been utilizing Royce Keys in dark matches to give him additional “in-ring reps” while the creative team finalizes his specific direction. This period of acclimation is standard for most incoming talent. PWInsider.com noted that one internal source described Keys as currently getting “acclimated” to the nuances of WWE’s production style.

The outlet noted that his absence from television is not a cause for concern, stating that “99% of talents who are hired go through that process.” The wait for the “Powerhouse” to arrive on television may be nearing its end. WWE has reportedly already filmed vignettes with Keys that are expected to begin airing shortly.

While he was a free agent upon his debut, Friday Night SmackDown is still viewed as the most likely landing spot for the former AEW star.  As the industry moves toward WrestleMania 42 at Allegiant Stadium, the timing of Keys’ official television debut will be critical. With vignettes on the horizon, he could potentially factor into the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal or be saved until after WrestleMania to officially start his WWE run.
