A new initiative aims to nurture young musical talent adn promote choral tradition in the region.
Fostering a New Generation of Singers
The Rovigo Culture Foundation, in collaboration with the city’s Social Theater, has announced the creation of a new “white voices” choir. This initiative, spearheaded by Edoardo Bottacin, the theater’s artistic director, underscores a commitment to bolstering the region’s rich choral heritage and fostering a love of singing among young people. The choir aims not only to cultivate future audiences but also to identify and nurture emerging musical talents within the community.
A Training Ground for Vocal Excellence
The newly formed choir is envisioned as a dynamic training ground where young participants can hone their vocal skills, learn the value of teamwork, and explore a diverse musical repertoire. This repertoire will span from customary choral works to contemporary pieces. Moreover, choir members will have the chance to participate in productions featured in the Social theater’s season.
Expert Guidance and Socio-Educational Benefits
Francesco Toso, a councilor of the Rovigo Culture Foundation and an experienced educator in singing, choir, and music theory, will lead the choral formation. Toso emphasizes the dual artistic and socio-educational purpose of the choir. He states:
The idea was born to be able to equip the social theater, and therefore our city with a musical tradition so rooted, of a choir of professional white voices. The artistic and formative purpose also has an vital socio-educational effect since singing in a choir is undoubtedly an experience that increases the personality of the boys on a formative and emotional level making them feel an integral and indispensable part of a whole.

Research consistently demonstrates the positive impact of choral singing on young people. Studies have shown that participation in choirs can improve cognitive function, enhance emotional well-being, and foster a sense of community. Such as, a 2023 study published in the Journal of Research in Music Education found that children who participate in choral activities exhibit improved social skills and increased self-esteem.
