Too much smog in Rome and traffic will therefore have to stop. For Sunday 14 December, in fact, the mayor Roberto Gualtieri signed an order to stop the most polluting vehicles in the area of ​​the so-called Ztl Fascia Verde. (here is the map)

The Arpa Lazio control units, recording smog levels higher than national limits in various areas of the city, had in fact announced the measure. A situation predicted by the regional agency’s models already at the beginning of December and which has duly occurred, with the consequences that will lead to a stop in circulation for the most polluting vehicles.

Specifically, the traffic block in the Fascia Verde ZTL area will concern Euro 3 petrol and Euro 4 diesel cars, mopeds and motor vehicles (3 and 4 wheels) powered by Euro 2 diesel, vehicles powered by Euro 3 petrol and Euro 4 diesel used for the transport of goods (categories N1, N2 and N3). The block will only concern the time slot between 7.30 and 10.30 in the morning and then between 5 and 8 pm.

As required by law, we read in a note from the Capitol, the decision is necessary following “the findings of the urban monitoring network on air pollution data, which recorded the prolonged exceeding of PM10 with, according to the Arpa Lazio models, the persistence of a critical situation”.

Other limitations will concern the “ban on the use of domestic heat generators powered by woody biomass (in the presence of an alternative heating system) with energy and emission performances that are not capable of respecting the values ​​envisaged at least for the 3-star class and the ban on outdoor combustion of any type”, concludes the note.
