In an unexpected turn of events, Roman Fress (31) from the Magdeburg SES-Boxstall has received a significant opportunity. The World boxing Association (WBO) has announced that Fress will compete for the interim WBO Cruiserweight title.

The WBOS decision came as a surprise to the cruiserweight fighter on Wednesday afternoon.

Fress is set to face British boxer Chris Billam-Smith (35) for the interim WBO title. This opportunity arose due to an injury sustained by the current WBO titleholder, Gilberto Ramirez (34). The Mexican boxer, who also holds the WBA title in the 90.72-kilogram weight class, underwent shoulder surgery earlier this summer.

Fress Aims for World Title

“We are confident that the fight will take place in November or December. Of course, we will try to bring the fight to Germany.”

Ulf Steinforth,the SES-Promoter,expressed his excitement,stating,”We have been working towards this. We are confident that the fight will take place in November or December. Of course, we will try to bring the fight to Germany.”

steinforth added, “Biliam-Smith is a former Cruiserweight World Champion and no stranger to the Fress camp. He does things that Roman might not be comfortable with, and he is a force to be reckoned with in the weight class. But if Roman plays to his strengths, he is by no means without a chance.”

Fress Eyes the World Title!

Fress’s ultimate goal is a potential fight against RAMIREZ. Should the Mexican boxer recover, the winner of the interim WBO title fight would automatically become the next opponent for the favorite.

The Cruiserweight title has a rich history in Germany. Marco Huck (40) successfully defended the title 15 times between 2007 and 2016. Fress now aims to seize the opportunity to win the title for the first time.
