In a memorable moment at Fenway Park, no. 1 prospect Roman anthony secured his first Major League hit with his family in attendance. The highly anticipated debut of the young Red Sox outfielder became even more special as he drove in two runs with a double.

Following an 0-for-4 performance with a walk and an RBI in his debut on Monday, Anthony made an immediate impact on Tuesday.

During his initial at-bat, Anthony connected with a 1-2 changeup from Rays right-hander Ryan pepiot, sending the ball down the left-field line for a two-run double. The hit broke a scoreless tie with two outs in the first inning.

As the ball traveled too the Green Monster, Anthony’s parents, seated near the Red sox dugout, erupted in applause. Roman’s mom, Lori, was visibly emotional, shedding tears as she witnessed her son’s achievement.

With a fluid swing to the opposite field, Anthony drove the pitch with an exit velocity of 92.4 mph. Despite the pitch being outside the strike zone, Anthony extended his bat and made solid contact.

Anthony’s double came on a pitch 1.30 feet from the center of the plate, marking the furthest outside pitch hit for an extra-base hit by a Red Sox batter since Rafael Devers‘ home run on July 7, 2024 (1.50 feet from center).

The debut of the 21-year-old Anthony had been eagerly awaited, with his arrival coinciding with Wilyer Abreu’s placement on the 10-day injured list due to a left oblique strain.

“Roman’s mom, Lori, cried while witnessing her son’s accomplishment.”
