In a watchmaking world dominated by visual audacity and mechanical complexity, the Roger Dubuis house is making an unexpected turn. On the occasion of its 30th anniversary, the Geneva manufacturer is revisiting its DNA with the Hommage La Placide, a limited edition that shakes up recent Roger Dubuis design codes. The Hommage La Placide stands out in the brand’s current landscape. With its round rose gold case measuring 38 mm in diameter and 11 mm thick, it boasts a decidedly more sober style. No more exuberant proportions: here, everything is in restraint. The case alternates polished surfaces and brushed sides, while the smooth bezel and subtle chamfers demonstrate careful but discreet finishing work. The aesthetic spirit is directly in line with the tradition of the pieces created in the 1990s, at the dawn of the brand.
The dial remains typically stamped Roger Dubuis thanks to its perpetual calendar complication with biretrograde display. The blue lacquer main plate contrasts elegantly with the brushed circular minute track and mother-of-pearl calendar segments, dedicated to retrograde day and date indications. At the top, the months and leap years follow this same pearly material, just like the moon phase at the bottom, decorated with an aventurine disc on which sits a gold moon.

A restored and modernized historic caliber
Technically, the watch is based on the Hommage 1472 caliber, the result of the fusion between an RD14 automatic movement and the RD72 perpetual calendar module. The RD14, the first automatic base designed by the house in 2004, has been recovered, restored and modernized here. Its swan neck regulator, its original Roger Dubuis spiral spring as well as a new optimization of the gear train demonstrate a desire for increased performance. This caliber beats at 4 Hz with a power reserve of 48 hours, powered by a newly designed gold rotor.
The RD72 module, used for the first time in 1999, has also been redesigned. If the technical base remains faithful to the original, almost 50% of the components (levers, springs, wheels, pinions, etc.) have been completely remanufactured. Everything now benefits from the Geneva Hallmark in its current version, a certification applied to the entire watch, synonymous with finished excellence in 15 different decorative techniques.
Produced in just 28 pieces, the Roger Dubuis Hommage La Placide is attached to the wrist via a blue calfskin strap, equipped with a triple blade folding clasp. A rare and discreet piece, a tribute to the classic roots of the house, far from contemporary aesthetic excesses.
