The two first met in 1958 because of Elvis Presley. Roberto would perform the song “Hound Dog” on Clube do Rock, a television program on the now extinct TV Tupi, and learned from a mutual friend that Erasmo had the lyrics at home.
Soon after this meeting, Erasmo accepted an invitation from Roberto to go on TV. They never left each other apart again: “Perfect musical marriage”, said Erasmo in an interview with “Domingo Espetacular” (Record TV) in 2021.
The friends only stopped talking once and because of a mistake. When Erasmo sang in a program led by Wilson Simonal, the edition forgot to include Roberto’s name among the composers. “It seemed like the songs were just mine. Someone told him that they didn’t like it, and they fought with me. I wasn’t at all to blame. The program didn’t feature the partnership with him in the credits, but everything was resolved”, explained Erasmo in the same interview.
