Marvel Cinematic Universe icons Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans just reunited at the Academy Awards. This comes ahead of both actors returning to the MCU for the upcoming movie Avengers: Doomsday.
At the Oscars on Sunday night, Downey and Evans appeared on the stage together to present the awards for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Original Screenplay. At the start of the appearance, Downey noted, “The script. It’s the driving force of any film, and it’s truly been a banner year for screenwriters.” Evans then interrupted Downey to ask what he had gifted him, with the Captain America actor giving the Iron Man actor a signed copy of the Avengers script. Downey then gave Evans his valet receipt.
Following this exchange, the MCU stars presented the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay. This went to Paul Thomas Anderson for One Battle After Another. Other nominees included Frankenstein (Guillermo del Toro), Hamnet (Chloe Zhao and Maggie O’Farrell), Bugonia (Will Tracy), and Train Dreams (Clint Bentley and Greg Kwedar).
Before presenting the award for Best Original Screenplay, Downey offered Evans the sparkly underwear that Channing Tatum wore in Magic Mike. Tatum, who was in attendance, yelled from the audience that he was going to need the underwear back “for work later.” Downey and Evans proceeded to announce Ryan Coogler as the winner for Sinnersovercoming the fellow nominees Blue Moon (Robert Kaplow), It Was Just an Accident (Jafar Panahi), Marty Supreme (Ronald Bronstein and Josh Safdie), and Sentimental Value (Eskil Vogt and Joachim Trier).
