Former Top Gear presenter Richard hammond is set to participate in the Silverstone Festival, racing a classic sports car as part of his new television show.
Hammond, known for his time on Top Gear and The Grand tour, will compete in the Royal Automobile Club Historic Tourist Trophy at the Silverstone Festival in Northamptonshire during the August bank holiday weekend.
He will be driving a 1961 Austin Healey 3000,facing off against other pre-1963 vehicles like the E-type Jaguar and AC Cobra.
Hammond’s co-driver, Patrick Blakeney-Edwards, stated, “It’s all about taking part rather then winning.”

The event will be featured on the upcoming season of Richard Hammond’s Workshop, available on Discovery+.
Hammond and Blakeney-Edwards have already practiced at the Silverstone circuit. Blakeney-Edwards noted, “He clearly knows how to drive and has done a little racing before… Though, we want him to enjoy himself – and to do that, he needs confidence both in himself and in the car… These miles are key to ensuring we have a fun weekend.”

Event director Nick Wigley expressed his enthusiasm for Hammond’s participation in the Silverstone Festival.
The car will compete against others made before 1963, including an AC Cobra
In addition to the race, the festival will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Formula 1 World Championship.
Musical performances will be given by Natasha Bedingfield and Craig David presents TS5.
The Silverstone Festival is scheduled for August 22-24.
