After the attacks against immigrants in Porto, we have seen several statements from public office holders demanding reflection. I reinforce that all political forces condemned the attacks, but, as I wrote in the last chronicle, Chega gave them a context of justification. Ventura spoke of the wave of “attacks, robberies and other crimes” in downtown Porto, “often whose perpetrators are immigrants” and “a problem of uncontrolled immigration in Portugal”. He also questioned whether they were racially motivated. No news. It was predictable that André Ventura would be unable to condemn attacks on immigrants without excusing them.
