[Sports Center/Comprehensive Report]Angels star third baseman Anthony Rendon has been suffering from constant injuries in recent years. He still has the last year of his contract with the Angels in 2026. According to an article written by Jeff Fletcher, a senior reporter for the Orange County Register, the Angels may waive Rendon this offseason.
Rendon helped the Nationals win the World Series championship in 2019. After the season, he joined the Angels for approximately US5 million (approximately NT$7.72 billion) over seven years. Except for playing 58 games in the shortened season in 2020, Rendon has missed most games due to injury in the past five years, and has only played 257 games for the Angels in total. Rendon had surgery on his left hip in February this year and was immediately reimbursed for the season.
Fletcher recently wrote an article stating that Rendon still has a contract of US$38 million (approximately NT$1.19 billion) next season and may be directly waived by the team. “The possibility of the Angels cutting Rendon in the winter still exists.”
The 35-year-old Rendon was reimbursed for one of the six years in his career with the Angels. He accumulated 22 home runs and 125 RBIs, and his average hitting measurements were 0.242/0.348/0.369.
The last time Rendon stood on the major league stage was on September 7, 2024. Rendon played 57 games that year, had 0 home runs, 14 RBIs, and a batting average of only 218%.
