Green Alert Issued in Cibao Region

The Emergency Operations Center (COE) has declared a green alert for five provinces within the Cibao region of the Dominican Republic. The affected provinces include Santiago, dajabón, Montecristi, Santiago Rodríguez, and Valverde.

Authorities are urging residents in these areas to exercise caution, particularly when near bodies of water. The COE specifically advises people to refrain from attempting to cross rivers, streams, and ravines where water levels are elevated due to the expected precipitation.

Weather Pattern: The Culprit Behind the Alert

The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (indomet) reports that a Vaguada, linked to a cold front, is the primary cause of the impending weather. This weather pattern is predicted to generate moderate to heavy downpours, accompanied by Thoroughies and strong gusts of wind, especially impacting provinces in the northwestern part of the country.

Regional Forecast and Temperature Outlook

For the National District, the forecast suggests a mostly clear sky initially, with increasing cloud cover and scattered showers developing later in the afternoon.

Despite the expected rainfall, temperatures are predicted to remain hot throughout the day, particularly in urban areas. However, residents in mountainous regions and valles in the interior of the country can anticipate slightly cooler and more pleasant conditions during the early morning hours.

Understanding Weather Alerts in the Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic utilizes a color-coded alert system to inform the public about potential weather-related hazards. A Green alert signifies a minimal threat level, advising citizens to stay informed and take basic precautions. Other alert levels include Yellow (moderate threat) and Red (high threat), each requiring increasingly stringent safety measures.

Staying informed about weather patterns and alert levels is crucial for ensuring personal safety and minimizing potential damage during periods of inclement weather. Residents are encouraged to monitor official announcements from the COE and Indomet for the latest updates and recommendations.
