{{#rendered}} {{/rendered}}Dallas Stars right winger Mikko Rantanen was suspended for one game Sunday after incurring his second foul of the season against the Calgary Flames.
The incident occurred in the last minute of the second period. Rantanen skated behind Flames forward Matt Coronato and slammed him into the boards. Coronato was bleeding profusely from his face and Rantanen soon went to the showers.

“Mikko Rantanen, Dallas, has been automatically suspended for one game under Rule 23.6, Category of Physical Infractions,” the NHL Department of Player Safety said in a statement. “In regular season League games, any player who incurs a total of two (2) penalties for unsportsmanlike conduct in the Physical Infractions Category, before playing 41 consecutive regular season League games without such penalty, will be automatically suspended for his team’s next League game.”
This is Rantanen’s second boarding violation and second foul in six periods. He was ejected in the final minute of Tuesday’s loss against the New York Islanders after receiving a boarding penalty for a hit on Alexander Romanov.

Dallas ended up losing to Calgary 3-2 in a penalty shootout.

The Stars managed to force overtime with goals from Jason Robertson and Roope Hintz in the third period. But the Flames’ Nazem Kadri scored the goal in the shootout that made the difference.
Dallas plays the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday.
