Austrian Football Association Head States Coach Will Resign if Team Fails to Qualify
The head of the Austrian Football Association, Joseph Broll, has announced that Ralph Rangnick will step down from his position as national team coach if Austria fails to secure a spot in the next year’s World Cup finals.
speaking to an Austrian news agency before Austria’s match against Bosnia and Herzegovina, broll stated, “If it does not succeed, it will not continue.” Austria currently holds second place in Group Eight with 9 points, following victories in their first three qualifying matches. They trail group leaders Bosnia and Herzegovina by 3 points, who have a perfect record after winning all four of their matches. The winner of the group automatically qualifies for the World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada next year. The second-place teams will have another chance to qualify through playoffs, which Rangenik woudl also be available for.
Broll noted that Rangnick’s contract, which began in 2022, extends to the World Cup.Discussions regarding the future beyond that point have not yet taken place,but negotiations will occur at the appropriate time.
Broll emphasized, “The full focus on achieving success in the coming weeks to achieve this goal.”
The Austria team last participated in the World Cup in 1998. Rangnick commented, “We can take a big step” by securing a win against Bosnia.
