Raiders QB Aidan O’Connell Leaves Game with Apparent Leg Injury
(Las Vegas, NV) – The Las Vegas Raiders suffered a major blow Sunday when quarterback Aidan O’Connell was injured late in the third quarter against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
O’Connell was in the process of completing an 8-yard pass to Jakobi Meyers when he was shoved from behind by Buccaneers defensive lineman Calijah Kancey. The hit appeared to be after the throw and went unpenalized. CBS rules analyst Gene Steratore called it a "missed late hit" on the broadcast.
A Concerning Scene
Team medical personnel quickly attended to O’Connell, who appeared to be in significant pain. His leg was placed in an aircast, indicating a potential fracture, and he was subsequently carted off the field.
Both teams showed support for O’Connell as he left the stadium, with players from both sides wishing him well.
Desmond Ridder Takes Over
The Raiders, who trailed 14-10 at the time, turned to Desmond Ridder to take over at quarterback. This move comes after the team already lost Garnder Minshew to a broken collarbone earlier this season.
Before the Injury
Prior to the injury, O’Connell had completed 11 of 19 passes for 104 yards and a single interception.
This injury is a significant blow for the Raiders, who were looking to stage a playoff run.
Be sure to check back for updates on O’Connell’s condition and the Raiders’ remaining games.
