Emma Raducanu, currently ranked 41st after a series of promising performances, is gearing up for another encounter with Iga Swiatek. The young Brit has struggled in previous matches against Swiatek,and this upcoming face-off will be a test of her recent improvements.

The 2021 US Open champion has a challenging history against Swiatek, having lost all four of thier previous encounters. These defeats include matches on indoor clay in Stuttgart and hard-court battles at Indian Wells and the Australian Open.

Their most recent match at the Australian Open was particularly tough for Raducanu, with Swiatek dominating 6-1, 6-0. Swiatek’s powerful and precise groundstrokes proved too much for Raducanu to handle.

“she gets really fired up when she plays me – I don’t know why that is but she’s always played really well,” Raducanu told BBC sport. “I’m not sure if it is a me thing but every time we have played she has been high level.”

While Raducanu has shown progress in the months since their last match, her recent loss to Coco Gauff on the Madrid clay highlighted the ground she still needs to cover to compete with the top players.

Analyzing Raducanu’s Strategy Against Swiatek

Tennis analyst Annabel Croft believes this match will reveal where Raducanu truly stands. “Against a top quality opponent who is not going to go away psychologically, that’s where you are going to see where Raducanu’s game is at,” Croft stated.

“She knows she has to come out and be aggressive against swiatek. She won’t get away with just pushing the ball around.”

Croft emphasized the need for Raducanu to take the initiative. “She will need to get the first strike in and will also need to get depth – or angle – to try and control the point.”

According to Croft, a defensive approach will not work against Swiatek. “If you start to play catch-up against Swiatek in a rally you will come out second best.”
