Qinwen Zheng Seeks a Turnaround as her Dubai Debut Backfires

The Chinese tennis star embarked on her 2025 campaign with mixed results, winning only one match out of four. Recently, her string of losses continued in Dubai.

Following the loss, Zheng skipped her scheduled press conference. Explaining her absence, she stated, “The weather was quite hot, and I had a long day waiting. My fingers started to cramp and stuck together, making it difficult to serve. Then, I experienced cramps in both calves, something I’ve never faced before.”

Standing alone with a negative win-loss record, Zheng must secure more victories to retain her position in the top ten.

Just three months ago, Zheng reached the WTA Finals final, narrowly falling to Coco Gauff in a three-set match. She now aims to regain that form over the coming months.

Zheng’s Upcoming Tournaments

Zheng will compete at the WTA 1000 tournament in Indian Wells, California. Unlike some top contenders, she will not participate in the WTA 500 and 250 tournaments in Mexico and the United States.

Her performances in the past years have not been stellar at these events, with only a few victories across multiple appearances. Notably, her best showing came in Miami two years ago, where she reached the fourth round.

Zheng’s success in Indian Wells and Miami will play a crucial role in her bid to improve her season.
