Ally Wollaston Wins Stage 1 of the International female tour of the Pyrenees

Ally Wollaston (FDJ-SUEZ) secured victory in the bunch sprint on stage 1 of the International female tour of the Pyrenees on Friday.

With 100 metres remaining, She launched her acceleration, overtaking the VolkerWessels Pro Cycling pair of Eline Jansen and Margot Vanpachtenbeke on the final right-hand bend in Barbazan-Debat.

The New Zealand cyclist entered the three-day stage race in south-west France following her overall triumph at the Tour of Britain Women. She is set to wear the leader’s jersey on the mid-race stage, a 134.6km route culminating in a mountaintop finish at Col du Soulor.

Eline Jansen and Margot Vanpachtenbeke finished second and third respectively on the 112.6km opening stage,placing them in the same positions in the GC standings.Heidi Franz (Cynisca Cycling) leads Wollaston by two points in the mountains classification after the first stage.
