Macron: «We are working on resuming dialogue with Putin»

Emmanuel Macron declared today that the resumption of dialogue with the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, is “under preparation”, underlining however that Moscow does not show a “real will” to negotiate peace in Ukraine. When questioned on the topic during a visit to French Savoy, the president replied that the resumption of dialogue “is being prepared and therefore there are ongoing discussions at a technical level”. The president specified that everything is done “in transparency and in consultation” with the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky: “It is important – said Macron – that the Europeans restore their channels of discussion”. The head of the Elysée did not want to anticipate dates, later defining the recent Russian offensives as “intolerable”, which do not suggest “a real desire to negotiate for peace”. Macron said in December that it would “become useful again to talk to Vladimir Putin”, an announcement welcomed by the Kremlin.

Zelensky: after new Russian attack, negotiators’ work changes

«Every Russian attack» like last night’s «confirms that the attitude in Moscow has not changed: they continue to bet on war and the destruction of Ukraine, and do not take diplomacy seriously. The work of our negotiating team will be adapted accordingly.” This was announced by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on X, on the eve of the new round of talks in Abu Dhabi. “This was a deliberate attack against energy infrastructure, involving a record number of ballistic missiles,” reiterated the Ukrainian leader.

Moscow – Development Minister Oleksiy Kuleba has meanwhile announced – resumed its raids today against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, leaving over a thousand condominiums in the capital without heating, where temperatures are close to twenty degrees below zero. “The result of these raids is that over 1,100 residential buildings were left without heating,” he said on X, accusing Moscow of targeting “housing, the heating system, the basic living conditions of civilians” across the country.

Zelensky: Attacks are more important for Russia than negotiations

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia was prioritizing attacks over peace negotiations, after Moscow fired dozens of missiles and hundreds of drones over Ukraine overnight. “Using the coldest days of winter to terrorize the population is more important for Russia than resorting to diplomacy,” Zelensky wrote on social media, adding that Russian forces attacked with “more than 70 missiles in total, as well as 450 attack drones.”

Dnipro also affected

According to the Ukrinform agency, Russian attacks last night in Kiev damaged several skyscrapers, leaving two injured. The cities of Kharkiv and Dnipro were also hit during the night.
