If you’ve been playing PlayStation for more than half a dozen years, there’s one thing that’s guaranteed. You know very well what PlayStation Network is. In fact, āPSNā is already part of your vocabulary. It’s rooted. It’s always been there since the PS3 days.
But it looks like it’s about to disappear!
PSN will disappear in 2026

Therefore, according to an internal email sent to developers, Sony plans eliminate the āPlayStation Networkā and āPSNā branding by September 2026.
The goal? Simplify and unify the brand. Or rather, the company wants to better reflect what the PlayStation is today. Since it’s not just an online network. It’s a complete ecosystem.
But calm down. Nothing will change for you. Or at least almost nothing
Sony itself has already confirmed that this change will be just visual.
I.e:
- There are no technical changes
- Services remain the same
- Your account will not disappear
So⦠why change what works?
Good question. The PlayStation Network launched in 2006. It’s about to do 20 years.
For Sony, it may simply be time to update its image and align everything with the new phase of PlayStation, where services, subscriptions and digital content have more and more weight.
But there is a clear risk here. PSN is not just a name. It is a brand with history, with identity and even with memories, good and bad.
And now?
For now, there is no new name confirmed. We only know that the change arrives in September 2026 and that it will be transversal to the entire platform. It will probably happen in the āwarm-upā for the next consoles. That is, the PS6 and the PS Portable.
Will it be a good idea? There’s no way to know. It’s wait and see. Not everything that changes is for the worse, and in fact, things could make sense within Sony’s planning for the future of its consoles.
