Sony has made a big announcement. There will be an update on this in the coming weeks PS5 Pro rolled out, which should take your gaming experience to a new level.
PS5 Pro: Sony announces update with new PSSR version
The new update brings an updated version of PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) to the PS5 Pro. This means that the image quality of the games is significantly improved using AI. Said function analyzes the individual image pixels and then scales them up.
So far, the technology has already been used in more than 50 titles on the PS5 Pro, according to Sony. With the release of Resident Evil Requiem on February 27th, the new and more advanced PSSR was used for the first time, which contributes to a high frame rate and quality.
The smallest details appear in a new light
Masaru Ijuin from Capcom is excited about the updated version of the PSSR for Resident Evil Requiem, which makes even the smallest details much more intense: “For example, every strand of hair and beard is rendered as a polygon, so they move more realistically in response to body movements and wind. The way the light passes through his hair also changes depending on how his hair strands lie on top of each other. This accurate representation of textures is one of the many details that we are very focused on especially looking forward to our fans seeing them.”
Sony plans to announce more information about the new technology throughout March, including when several existing games will be updated to the improved PSSR. The corresponding software update for the PS5 Pro is also scheduled to be released this month. Once you’ve downloaded this, you’ll need to select “Enhance PSSR Image Quality” in Settings to experience the new PSSR on any supported PS5 Pro game.
