The 17-year-old Portuguese young man arrested on Thursday in the north on suspicion of murder and incitement to hatred and violence, which led to the death of a girl in Brazil, was today in preventive detention, according to a judicial source.

The measure of coercion against the young man was determined after an interrogation that began this Friday morning at the Central Criminal Instruction Court, in Lisbon, and lasted for several hours, with the investigating judge’s decision being made known at 8pm.

The investigation of this case was carried out by the National Counterterrorism Unit of the Judiciary Police (PJ), with the young Portuguese man being considered a suspect in the crimes of qualified homicide, offenses against qualified physical integrity and discrimination and incitement to hatred and violence, as well as such as the commission of crimes involving pornography of minors, explained that criminal investigation body in a statement.

This operation aimed to “understand and identify the activity carried out ‘online’ by the detainee”, with the PJ carrying out home searches on Thursday and “seizing a vast collection of evidence, namely computer and digital material”.

According to this police force, the young man “created and manages a group on the ‘Discord’ platform, where they grouped together differently.
