Taking into account different needs, it is possible to buy vignettes for different time periods – a day, a week, a month, nine months and a year, evaluating how often the specific car needs to be driven.
It was also announced that the MPs of the opposition “United List” (AS) have submitted amendments to the Road Use Toll Law, calling for the cancellation of the road use toll from 3.01 to 3.5 tons for commercial vehicles and to reduce the increase in the vignette fee. AS members believe that the decision to increase the toll is harmful to the economy and contributes to inflation.
The Minister of Transport (MO) Atis Švinka (P), on the other hand, stated that the plan to include cars from three to 3.5 tons in the scope of toll payment in 2016 was pushed by the current opposition politician and AS representative, at that time the parliamentary secretary of the MO, Edgars Tavars, as well as the then Minister of Transport Uldis Augulis (ZZS), who currently represents the coalition in parliament.
On the other hand, today, before the president’s announcement, Švinka informed that the Memorandum of Understanding will offer to extend the period of time when farmers are exempted from the road use toll. Namely, until now the law stipulated that farmers who register their vehicles with the LAD do not have to pay the road use fee during the harvest period – from July 10 to September 30. He proposes to stipulate that the vignette will not have to be purchased between March 1st and November 30th.
At the same time, the minister said that he will push for additions to the law, which provide for support for large families and re-emigrants in the segment of vehicles from three to 3.5 tons, giving a 50% discount for one truck owned by a family.
