To many, Bloom is best known as the owner of Brighton, as well as being a minority shareholder in Belgian first division team Union SG. He also has participations in the Australian club Melbourne Victory and the Scottish Premiership club Hearts.

For those unfamiliar with the Brighton-born businessman, Bloom began his career at an accounting firm before moving into options trading and eventually professional gaming. Nicknamed “The Lizard” for his poker skills, he founded Starlizard in 2006, a company that focuses on using data to analyze and predict sports outcomes.

Starlizard’s success allowed him to expand his investments into racehorse breeding and charitable foundations, as well as taking Brighton from League One to the Premier League, decades after the club was on the brink of demise in the late 1990s. Brighton have since also competed in the Europa League for the first time in their history.
