The Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato (Ipzs) and the Italian Post Office have purchased from the Ministry of Economy the entire share capital of PagoPa, a company that manages some telematic services and platforms, including the Io App, by exercising the envisaged option rights. A note communicates this. The option exercised by Ipzs concerns the controlling stake equal to 51% of the share capital of PagoPA, while that exercised by Poste 49%. Completion of the transaction is subject to obtaining authorizations from the competent authorities. The consideration for the purchase is approximately 500 million euros.
The strategy
«The acquisition of PagoPA represents a strategic investment for Ipzs with the aim of streamlining and simplifying the management of public digital services, from identity to payments and developing the IT-Wallet System coordinated by the Department for Digital Transformation», we read in the text. IT-Wallet is the technological solution with which the Italian State allows citizens to store, consult and use documents, certificates and digital attestations on the smartphone and will offer a secure, accessible and legally recognized digital alternative to traditional physical documents, in line with the European architecture envisaged for the European digital wallet.
