The federal government is currently working hard to reverse some decisions that were supposed to keep Germany and Europe on the path to climate neutrality: The Building Energy Act has been changed – gas and oil heating systems should now be allowed to run longer. Funding for small photovoltaic systems will soon be eliminated if Federal Economics Minister Katherina Reiche (CDU) plans. In addition, the German government has successfully pushed for the EU’s ban on combustion engines to be weakened.

The word ideology is often used, especially when it comes to economic issues, the labor market or the welfare state. We constantly hear demands that economic policy should be free of ideology. Why is that?

The economics

… belong to the social sciences. They try to describe, explain and interpret economic relationships. The best-known disciplines are economics (economics) and business administration (business administration). Economics looks at larger economic contexts – such as markets. Business administration looks at economics with a focus on companies. This interview is primarily about economic policy questions that are more closely related to the field of economics.

Economist and author Daniel Stähr deals with narratives in economics. In his new book he criticizes that economists have too much influence on politics.
