Polestar 5: First Look & Release Date

Polestar has a four-door Grand Tourer in the works, a car that was shown already in 2020 as the Precept concept. It is now getting so close that the car has actually been given a starting price, 1.259 million for the standard edition and 1.528 million for the Performance.

But the Polestar 5 that comes first costs only a fraction. Because at the weekend, Polestar showed off its new Polestar 5 in Gran Turismo 7 for Playstation 4 and 5, and it was developed in collaboration with game developer Polyphony Digital over at Sony Interactive Entertainment. Because Polestar is so concerned that the GT car should be as realistic as possible that they have the developers access to both the development team and test data. – I have long been impressed by the Polestar cars for their technological precision, clean design language and elegant design, says Kazunori Yamauchi, producer of the Gran Turismo series. – It is therefore a pleasure to work with them to bring Polestar 5 into Gran Turismo. This is the first time we have worked together, and it has been a very positive experience. The Polestar team has put a lot of effort into transferring the car’s driving feel and dynamics to the game, and I’m sure players will appreciate the result.

The team for the digital Polestar 5 has also included the professional racing driver and sim racing profile Igor Fraga, and this is a guy who is known for his fast lap times in the Gran Turismo series. Together, they have fine-tuned the obviously fun-to-drive car, and not least hunted for exactly the same driving characteristics in the game world as in the real world. Polestar says that the aim is for it to be possible to set exactly the same lap times around a real track as the same track in the Gran Turismo game. – For us, it was important that the Polestar 5 is experienced as precisely and vividly in the game as in reality, says Joakim Rydholm, head of driving dynamics at Polestar. – The collaboration with the Grand Turismo team has made this possible. The digital car recreates the driving feeling to the letter, and thus players can get a taste of what it actually feels like to drive our new Grand Tourer. The game series Gran Turismo came out in 1997, and has now sold over 100 million copies. The very latest game, GT 7, came in 2020, and includes well over 500 cars from 72 brands. Soon it will be 73, because the Polestar 5 will be the first of several planned models to find their way into the sports series. It happens via a free update in December. As for the real Polestar 5 with ranges of up to 670 kilometers and outputs of up to 871 hp, orders were opened in September, so this too should be approaching the customers.
