PlayStation 5 Price Hike: Sony Increases PS5 Cost by Over $100

Sony announced a new increase in the prices of the PlayStation 5 that will take effect from April 2, with increases of up to US$ 100 depending on the model.

The adjustment reaches the entire line. The standard PS5 will go from US$549.99 to US$ 649,99while the digital edition will rise from US$499.99 to US$ 599,99. Meanwhile, the PS5 Pro will increase from US$749.99 to US$ 899,99.

The portable device also becomes more expensive PlayStation Portalwhich will go from US$ 199.99 to US$ 249,99.

It is the second increase in less than a year. In August 2025, the company had already increased prices by US$50 for all models.

The company attributed the decision to the “continued pressures in the global economic context”. They noted that the adjustment seeks to sustain investment in development and guarantee high-quality gaming experiences.

The increase will be global. In Europe, for example, the PS5 will go to €649.99 and the Pro version to €899.99. In the UK it will cost £569.99, while in Japan it will reach ¥97,980 for the base model.

The rise is not an isolated case in the industry. Microsoft also recently increased the prices of its Xbox consoles and accessories, while Nintendo adjusted the value of the Switch following tariff changes in the United States.

In parallel, Bloomberg reports indicate that Sony is considering delaying the launch of the next generation of PlayStation until 2028 or 2029, in a context of increasing costs in components such as RAM.
