The cataclysm of Real Madrid in Albacete did not only ignite the Spanish press: it also reawakened one of the most toxic and media rivalries of the last decade, that between Gerard Piqué and Álvaro Arbeloa. The former Barça defender did not miss the opportunity to attack his old enemy, now propelled to the Merengue bench… and already humiliated for his first match.
The scene takes place in the Kings League presidents’ WhatsApp group, where Pique is omnipresent. According to Spursito, one of the participants in the live broadcast, Piqué sent a terse message immediately after Real Madrid’s defeat: “Good start, 3-2.” A surgically cold sting, aimed as much at Arbeloa as at the Madrid club. The expression had the effect of a bomb. “Let this come out in all the national and international media… Piqué has just made fun of Arbeloa,” exclaims Spursito, hilarious. DjMaRiio, a self-confident Madrid native, replies straight away: “Piqué is dead… incredible”.

Arbeloa – Pique, an old rivalry resurfaces
This message, as short as it is deadly, reactivates a rivalry born at the heart of the burning Clasicos between Guardiola’s Barça and Mourinho’s Real. At the time, the two defenders went blow for blow, on the pitch and in the media. In 2015, Piqué released his phrase that has become cult: “Arbeloa proclaims himself my friend, but he is only a cono… cnu — a known person”, a venomous play on words that has gone viral. Arbeloa responded by predicting that one day he would see Pique “at the comedy club talking about Real Madrid.”
Nothing has really calmed down since. Piqué still claimed that he had “nothing more to say, Arbeloa is just someone known”, while in 2017, Arbeloa declared that he would “not go out to eat with Piqué”. The defeat against Albacete therefore offered Pique an ideal terrain to strike again.
To summarize
Piqué reignited his old rivalry with Arbeloa by mocking him in the Kings League WhatsApp group following Real Madrid’s defeat at Albacete. His message “Good start, 3-2” ignited the broadcast, recalling their historic barbs born from the Barça–Real Clasicos.
