Phoenix Drake Pistol Employs Spherical Bushing for Enhanced Precision
The high-end Phoenix drake pistol utilizes a unique spherical bushing design to minimize manufacturing tolerances and maximize accuracy.
The Phoenix Drake pistol incorporates a specialized guide system featuring an additional free-hitting ring. This “Spherical Bushing” concept allows for looser manufacturing specifications between the bushing and the barrel, positively influencing the pistol’s overall precision.

Innovative Barrel and Locking System
The Phoenix Drake features a 127 mm long barrel with a polygon profile, held securely in place when the weapon is locked. Even when unlocked, the barrel remains firmly seated within a specialized guide socket. While resembling a standard 1911 bushing at first glance, closer inspection reveals similarities to the spherical Bushing, a design popularized by US manufacturer Briley for tuning 1911 pistols. A spherical ring integrated into the guide socket allows the barrel to tilt, further enhancing the weapon’s accuracy. A visible and tactile charging status indicator alerts the shooter when a cartridge is chambered.
“Extremely high demands of the Swiss to the precision this match weapon also underlines.”
The Drake employs a modified browning system for locking, where the locking and unlocking process, along with barrel tilting, are managed via a closed control cam instead of a traditional chain link. The block locks in the area of the ejection port, similar to the Petter-Sig system. The slide is guided in two leading grooves with minimal play, reflecting the stringent precision standards of the Swiss manufacturer.

The Drake’s accessories include 3 magazines, a carry bag, cleaning tools, a bushing wrench, and a printed manual.
The manufacturer emphasizes the high processing quality of the Drake pistols, providing an extensive accessory package. This includes three magazines, a cleaning set, a metal bushing key, a Codura pistol bag, and a thorough printed operating manual. The Phx Phoenix AG positions its pistols in the premium class, with prices ranging from 5,490 to 7,085 euros, depending on configuration. The Drake production in 9 mm Luger starts at 5,490 euros in a duotone finish with a black handle and side plates.
