There are several indie games that have debuted and become hits beyond anyone’s imagination. One example is Kinetic Games’ Phasmophobia, a paranormal hunting experience that has been available as an early access game for over five years and has sold over 25 million copies. Yes, it wasn’t even technically “complete,” but it sold more copies than most games could ever dream of selling.
But apparently the end of game development is near, as a recent roadmap confirmed that Phasmophobia will finally reach version 1.0 in 2026. This will coincide with the game’s major horror remake and massive lore update, which is exciting enough without taking into account Kinetic’s other big plans for the game in 2026.
First, the player characters will be completely revamped, the Unity 6 engine will be upgraded, and the network will be updated. We can expect remasters of the Fanglewood and Willow maps, as well as the addition of brand new maps, as well as returning events including Cursed Hollow, Crimson Eye, and Winters Jest, as well as a new and unannounced event. If that doesn’t get you excited, there are even plans to launch a Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026.
We don’t have a release date for these new titles yet, but it’s still a very impressive calendar year for a game that continues to be hugely successful and perform well.
