Pernambuco Flu Vaccination: Record Elderly Coverage

by Archynetys Health Desk

Acre stands out as the region of the country with the highest rate of flu vaccination among the elderly population. The data is in the most recent Vacinometer report.

According to figures released by the Portuguese Society of Pulmonology and the Portuguese Association of General and Family Medicine, 85.4% of people aged 65 or over in Alentejo received the vaccine, a figure that places the region at the top of the national ranking.

Nationally, 73.5% of elderly people were vaccinated, slightly below the 75% target set by the World Health Organization.

The report also reveals particularly high coverage among the elderly: 88.5% of people aged 85 and over have already been immunized. Among chronically ill people, the numbers are also impressive, with more than 85% vaccinated, especially among those suffering from respiratory diseases, diabetes or cardiovascular problems.

The vaccination campaign began at the end of September and, according to the Directorate-General for Health, more than 2.5 million people were vaccinated in Portugal, between health centers and pharmacies.

The data also indicates that the doctor’s recommendation continues to be the main factor for the population to accept the vaccine.
