Peloton Breakaways Live: Race Finale Updates

by drbyos

16km – They are no longer 3 in front

Cras and Kragh Andersen were caught by the peloton, and the Dane immediately took the lead to make one last big stint. It’s also starting to get complicated for Tarling, Arrieta and Kluckers, who only have a one-minute lead.

18km – Change of bike for Tejada

Fourth in the UAE Tour, and 11th overall this morning, Harold Tejada is the victim of a small mechanical problem. The Colombian, in good shape at the start of the season, is immediately expected by several Astana teammates and will be able to return to the peloton without worry.

24km – The Cofidis still at work

Perfect scenario at the moment for Jonas Vingegaard‘s Visma Lease a bike, who are quietly leaving control of the peloton to the Cofidis. Very comfortable on the descent, Joshua Tarling, Igor Arrieta and Arthur Kluckers have stabilized the gap around 1’30” on the peloton. The duo Steff Cras-Soren Kragh Andersen is between the two.

29km – Steff Cras struggling

It gets complicated for the Belgian from Soudal Quick-Step, who loses contact with the race lead on the descent… He will even be caught by Kragh Andersen.

33km – Kragh Andersen en chasse patate

Sandwiched between two groups, the Dane is 30″ ahead of the peloton, and almost as much behind the breakaway. He will have to continue to work to get back on the leading quartet still made up of Joshua Tarling, Igor Arrieta, Steff Cras and Arthur Kluckers.

36km – Kragh Andersen en contre

Double stage winner on the Tour de France (2020), also winner of Paris-Tours (2018) or even a stage on Paris-Nice (2020), Soren Kragh Andersen was a little too bored in the peloton. The Danish rider from Lidl-Trek has just set off in pursuit of the breakaway.

38km – The peloton is getting closer

While we attacked the Col de l’Aire Deï Masco (7.2km at 4.3%), the peloton continues to get dangerously close to the leading quartet. We see in particular the Bahrain-Victorious placing their leader Lenny Martinez back in the top positions.

45km – The breakaway stops the bleeding

Tarling, Arrieta, Cras and Kluckers have stabilized the gap with the peloton around 1’30”. But it looks almost mission impossible for the stage victory…

54km – Cofidis in support of the Visma

Visma Lease a bike can count on the support of… Cofidis at the head of the pack. The French team perhaps has ambitions today for its Spanish climber Ion Izagirre, currently 7th in the general classification. It’s Benjamin Thomas who strings together the big relays to reduce the gap to the breakaway.

62km – The peloton comes back strong

Under the leadership of Visma Lease a bike, who have taken matters into their own hands, the gap is seriously closing. Tarling, Arrieta, Cras and Kluckers are only 1’20” ahead of the peloton.

67km – A shower of abandonments

The Belgian Simon Dehairs, the Swiss Fabio Christen and the German Niklas Märkl all threw in the towel during this 6th stage.

72km – Still the same gap

We remain 1’50” ahead for the breakaway over a peloton still in management.

90km – It still holds for the quartet at the front

Tarling, Arrietta, Cras and Kluckers are now 1’50” ahead. The Bonnieux hill is approaching, things will finally get tough in this 6th stage.

112km – We probably have the real breakaway of the day

Joshua Tarling, Igor Arrieta, Steff Cras and Arthur Kluckers took off. They are 1’20” ahead.

138km – Regroup at the front

There are no more escapes after the first 50 minutes of the race. Another sixty kilometers of flat ground before the coast of Bonnieux.

Julien Bernard didn’t start either

Like his Lidl-Trek teammate Toms Skujins, Frenchman Julien Bernard – ill – did not start the 6th stage. A virus seems to be circulating in the peloton.

162km – Two men in the lead

The Swiss Stefan Bissegger and the Belgian Sébastien Grignard are around twenty seconds ahead of the peloton.

179km – Let’s go for this 6th stage of Paris-Nice

The peloton has just set off from Barbentane.

An abandonment even before departure

Amazing at the start of the season (final victory on the Ruta Del Sol) but fell on Thursday during the daunting stage towards Luchon, the young Spaniard Iván Romeo (22 years old) will not take the start of this 6th stage.

Has Vingegaard found his best level?

Double winner of the Tour de France, Jonas Vingegaard increased his lead in the general classification by winning the fifth stage of Paris-Nice between Cormoranche-sur-Saône and Uchon on Thursday. The Dane outperforms the competition and seems to have regained his former form.

Vingegaard on the highway to victory

Barring an unlikely turnaround, the Dane should win his first Paris-Nice after his second stage success in two days on Thursday in Colombier-le-Vieux thanks to a solo 21-kilometer raid. He had already taken a big option on the final victory on Sunday in Nice, by winning in the deluge the day before in Uchon.
