The general secretary of the PS, Pedro Nuno Santos, rejected alliances with Chega this Friday and exemplified that the socialists will fail in parliament the proposal from André Ventura’s party to eliminate tolls in the former SCUT.

“We do not form alliances with Chega. Look, we don’t do much that we present our proposal [da eliminação de portagens nas ex-SCUT]which is in line with what is in our electoral program, and we will fail Chega’s proposal”, he said.

In Beja, on the sidelines of a visit to the Ovibeja agricultural fair, the socialist leader was questioned by journalists about whether there were understandings between the PS and Chega regarding tolls on the ex-SCUT.

Chega’s bill on this topic, which the PS promised to fail this Friday, was entered into parliament on Thursday, was admitted, and will be voted on in general in the next plenary with votes.

Chega had first presented a draft resolution for the gradual exemption from paying tolls “within six years” and for reducing tolls in 2024 by 15% and 25% in the case of roads in the interior and Algarve.

This draft resolution was not voted on on Thursday and Chega voted in general favor of the PS bill to eliminate tolls on the ex-SCUT from next year.
