Paul Dano has received support from several movie stars after being called the “weakest male actor” in Hollywood by filmmaker Quentin Tarantino.

“I just want to say that I love Paul Dano. And if you don’t like it, shush!” said Alec Baldwin in a short video posted on Instagram.

“Paul Dano is truly brilliant,” wrote Ben Stiller in X.

Actress Toni Collette, for her part, shared a photo of Little Miss Sunshineadding a crown emoji above the head of Dano’s character in the film.

Director Matt Reeves (The Batman) also came to Dano’s defense, describing him as “an incredible actor” and “an incredible person.”

“A huge flaw”, according to Tarantino

Recall that Quentin Tarantino sparked a lot of controversy last week by calling Paul Dano “the weakest actor in SAG” (the American actors’ guild). The director of Kill Bill and of Pulp Fiction thus explained why he had not placed the drama There will be blood at the top of its list of the 20 best films of the 21st centurye century.

Tarantino judges that Paul Thomas Anderson’s feature film suffers from “a huge flaw”: the performance of Paul Dano, who, according to him, is no match for his playing partner, Daniel Day-Lewis.

“You put Daniel Day-Lewis against the weakest male actor in Hollywood? The softest guy in the world? I’m not saying he delivers a catastrophic performance. I’m just saying that he doesn’t exist on screen,” Tarantino said.

Paul Dano has yet to publicly respond to the controversy.
