Patrick Mahomes, the star quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs, finds himself in the spotlight again—this time, it’s his father Patrick Mahomes Sr. who is making headlines for his run-ins with the law.

The elder Mahomes has a history of alcohol-related incidents, and recently, the situation has escalated. Following a December brawl in New Orleans, where he apparently exchanged heated words with former MLB pitcher John Rocker, a Texas District Attorney requested that Mahomes Sr. be ordered to wear an alcohol monitoring bracelet.

This request came after Mahomes Sr. was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) during Super Bowl weekend in February. The District Attorney highlighted the need for continuous monitoring due to the quarterback’s father’s extensive travel schedule.

DA’s Request for Updated Sentencing

The filing by the Smith County District Attorney and the Community Supervisor included a request to update Mahomes Sr.’s sentencing to include the mandated alcohol monitoring bracelet. The DA specified that Mahomes Sr. must:

“At your own expense, immediately submit to the SCRAM Bracelet Alcohol Monitoring Program, directed by your Supervision Officer, and continue use of said device until released by the court.”

The document also emphasized the importance of adhering to all rules and regulations of the monitoring program without attempting to tamper with the device.

A History of Alcohol-related Incidents

This recent arrest is not Mahomes Sr.’s first encounter with the law over his drinking. In August 2024, he pleaded guilty to a felony driving while intoxicated charge. His attorney, Joseph D. Murphy, stated that Mahomes Sr. had entered a written plea deal, aiming for a probationary sentence to demonstrate his commitment to a sober life.

“Our client is now living a sober life, and we believe that the steps he has taken to better his life have helped us negotiate a plea recommendation for probation.”

Following his arrest, Mahomes Sr. agreed to five years of probation, with close supervision in the first 12 months to ensure he adhered to the terms.

Mahomes Sr. was booked into the Smith County Jail on October 21, 2024, and was set to be released on October 31, 2024, after serving 10 days. His criminal history in Texas shows consistent issues with public intoxication, including an incident during a football game in 2016 between TCU and Texas Tech.

Other Legal Troubles in the Family

While Patrick Mahomes Sr. has been making headlines, it’s not just him in the family dealing with legal issues. His younger brother, Jackson Mahomes, also found himself in court in 2023, charged with inappropriate sexual conduct. At Vaughn’s Restaurant and Lounge in Kansas City, Jackson was accused of pushing a waiter who interfered with his plans. He pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery and was sentenced to 120 days in jail and six months of probation.
