For several months, Marie* found herself without income and without the daily allowances due to her due to her sick leave. Despite a complete file sent to the General Social Security Fund (CGSS), she explains that she had difficulty communicating with them. A non-payment which weighs on the budget of this mother. Questioned by Imaz Press, the CGSS specifies “the average payment time is around 26 days”. She adds, “delay situations are often linked to the absence or incomplete nature of the documents transmitted”. (Photo photo Sly/www.imazpress.com)
The young woman has been off work for more than 18 months. She specifies that despite the complete file sent to the CGSS, “I had problems communicating with them and obtaining my daily allowances”.
– Compensation is long overdue –

Marie is off work after suffering from severe anxiety and depression from a medical point of view.
If the first month, she was paid by her employer, the employee – 80% therapeutic – saw her salary drop to 0 euros in April 2024. Marie then contacts her employer who tells her that it is the CGSS which must take over.
“Even though I sent emails and made telephone appointments on Ameli, at first I was told that there was nothing we could do,” she tells Imaz Press.
A situation which affects her physically and psychologically since, already on sick leave for anxiety, the stress of not receiving anything for this mother of three children adds worry.
Questioned by Imaz Press, the CGSS explains that “when a work stoppage gives rise to the right to daily allowances, two situations arise: the employer practices subrogation: he continues to pay the salary (all or part) and receives the IJ directly from the CGSS, as in this case. Or the employer does not practice subrogation: the CGSS then pays the IJ directly to the insured.

– A bank account in the red and a life of precariousness –
Having an acquaintance with the CGSS, Marie was finally able to have her file studied even though she was without resources and had to live on her savings and “sell precious things to live”.
The payment of daily allowances began to be released at the beginning of July 2024. “There all the money arrived in the employer’s account but not in my house and as the employer was on leave, it took more than three weeks for the money to arrive in my account”, she laments. In the meantime, his account is in the red, accumulated AGIO, direct debit rejections…
This situation occurred several times.
From August, the money arrived “at the good will of the CGSS”, sometimes “three weeks without anything and then sometimes paid every three days”. She explains, “I was told that as these allowances are calculated on 80% of the salary and not 100, it was not programmed automatically but that the processing was done manually”.
The only response she says she got from the General Social Security Fund “is not to hesitate to consult Ameli’s chat bot”. A chatbot on which there is a limited number of characters and no possibility of sending an attachment.
– Much delay in payment of daily allowances –
In March 2025, she decided to contact the CGSS mediator “because I could no longer take this situation”.
Marie even went so far as to call the CGSS services every 12th day, as she knew that the payment had to be made after 14 days “to make sure that everything was going to be done correctly”.
“During my last call, I was told that on my insurance sheet, there was a special indication “fragile customer” for people who had already reported problems,” explains Marie.
Since then, “when I send an email, I am answered immediately and the payments of daily allowances are finally regular”, she says, relieved, even if she “remains on the alert”.
“I haven’t given up but I think there must be other people like me who eventually give up and go back to work.”
The deadline for payment of the daily allowance must generally occur within 14 days, provided that the file is complete. However, in Reunion, “the average time for payment of daily allowances is today around 26 days, with a gradual improvement in recent months”, explains the CGSS to Imaz Press.
The CGSS specifies, “delay situations are often linked to the absence or incomplete nature of the documents transmitted. To limit these difficulties, some useful reflexes: quickly transmit the work stoppage, ensure that the employer has sent the salary certificate and follow the progress of the file via their ameli account.
– Each situation in terms of daily allowances presents particularities indicates the CGSS –
When contacted, the CGSS services explained that “each situation regarding daily allowances may present particularities (type of stoppage, amount of work, elements transmitted by the employer, deadlines for receipt of supporting documents, etc.)”.
She specifies:
• daily allowances compensate part of the loss of salary in the event of sick leave,
• they are calculated from the gross salaries of the last 3 months (or 12 months in the case of discontinuous activity),
• the amount of daily sickness benefit corresponds, as a general rule, to 50% of the basic daily salary,
• a legal waiting period of 3 days applies at the start of the shutdown (except for exceptions provided for in the texts). (Ameli)
The rules for entitlement and calculation apply in the same way to full-time or part-time employees.
Policyholders can contact the CGSS:
– by appointment (telephone or in person), accessible within 4 days on average,
– by telephone at 36 46, with a response rate of 9 calls out of 10 (smoothest time: 1 p.m.–3 p.m. Monday to Thursday),
– via the ameli account messaging,
– in physical reception on our four sites (Saint-Denis, Saint-Paul, Saint-Pierre, Saint-André) at the usual times.
The chatbot complements these channels: it provides quick answers to the most frequently asked questions and helps clear lines for more complex situations.
Finally, we recommend asking the doctor to teletransmit the sick leave when he can. We do not always know that this is possible, however, it secures exchanges, limits the risk of loss or delay in sending and allows faster processing of files.
