The acclaimed artist will share her techniques for capturing light in landscapes, seascapes, and cityscapes using soft pastels.
Painter Debbie Wardrope will be the featured artist at the virtual General Meeting and Art Demo hosted by the Fremont Art Association on Wednesday, June 4.
Wardrope has cultivated a lifelong passion for painting. While she often works with soft pastel, she is also skilled in oils and acrylics. Her art highlights familiar scenes, drawing attention to details often overlooked. Her pieces evoke a strong sense of place and time, distinguished by her skillful application of light and color.
Capturing Light with Pastels
In her exhibition, titled “Capturing Light in Soft Pastel,” Wardrope will explore the versatility of pastels in portraying light, enhancing the vibrancy of landscapes, seascapes, and cityscapes. she aims to reveal how soft pastel’s rich pigments and textures can capture the radiant glow of a vineyard in the late afternoon. She explains, “As pastel layers build up on the surface, thay catch and reflect the light, creating a luminous, almost magical affect.”

About Debbie Wardrope
Wardrope holds a BFA in illustration from California College of the Arts. She has received numerous awards and has participated in various group and solo exhibitions, including Art Expo in New York, and has displayed her work in galleries from Yountville to Carmel.
