The first day of the official election campaign period for the 2025 mid-term elections saw various party-list groups initiating their bid for seats in the House of Representatives. Unlike district representatives based at the Batasang Pambansa Complex in Quezon City, these party-lists have a national reach and influence.
Bayan Muna Party-list: Fighting for the Welfare of Filipinos
Former Bayan Muna Party-list Representative Neri Colmenares highlighted the need to bring Bayan Muna back to Congress following its absence in the 19th Congress.
“The absence of Bayan Muna in Congress has emboldened corrupt politicians and big business interests to pass laws that burden the people while benefiting the rich and powerful,” Colmenares emphasized.
Bayan Muna, a leftist Makabayan group, previously secured the highest number of votes among similar party-lists until the 19th Congress.
BUHAY Party-list: Celebrating Nominees and Fighting Against Anti-Life Measures

BUHAY, led by former congressman Lito Atienza, launched simultaneous gatherings in Manila. These included events at the Pope Pius XII Catholic Center and the Cebu Laiko Center,complete with the celebration of Holy Mass and blessings for nominees.
Atienza committed to continuing BUHAY’s crusade against anti-life and anti-family measures, corruption, and legislative efforts that uplift the lives of Filipinos.
Atienza has been a vocal opponent of anti-life bills such as divorce, same-sex marriage, and capital punishment during his terms as a Representative from the 16th to the 18th Congress.
CIBAC Party-list: Longest-Serving Advocate for Corruption-Free Government
CIBAC, the longest-serving party-list organization since 2001, kicked off its campaign with a rally at the Municipal Covered Court in Bocaue, Bulacan. More than 3,000 leaders from different sectors across the nation participated.
Bocaue Vice Mayor Sherwin Tugna and CIBAC nominees, including CIBAC Representative Bro. Eddie Villanueva, were present. Villanueva, the former Deputy Speaker, urged citizens to support CIBAC’s platform.
“While the world has not yet ended, CIBAC Party-List will continue to serve for the welfare of Filipinos,” Villanueva stated.
CIBAC has successfully pushed for over 223 laws aimed at reducing red tape, preventing money laundering, promoting good manners and right conduct, and facilitating business processes.
Akbayan Party-list: Progressive Reforms Through Dance
Akbayan, known for its association with former Vice President Leni Robredo, launched its 90-day campaign with a unique event: a Zumba workshop at the University of the Philippines (UP)-Diliman in Quezon City.
Akbayan’s primary nominee, lawyer Chel Diokno, and Rep. Perci Cendaña, participated in the energetic kickoff. Akbayan called on voters to choose candidates committed to progressive reforms and essential social services.
“We must sweat for the future we want, take action, and push forward with determination,” Diokno said. “If we love our country, then let’s band together for a better tomorrow.”
Akbayan aims to reignite its Kakampink spirit, amplifying its energy and embracing more voices to champion the people’s interests.
